P. Capros

Pantelis Capros (born 1954) is, since 1988, Professor of Energy Economics and Operation Research at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and head of the E3MLab (economy-energy-environment modelling laboratory) of the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems of National Technical University of Athens (ICCS/NTUA).

He has been, from 2000 to October 2004, the Chairman of the Regulatory Authority for Energy in Greece. Previously he was for 5 years (1995-2000) a member of the Board of Directors of the Greek Public Power Corporation. He has more than twenty years of professional experience of consultancy to the European Commission and to organisations in several European countries, in the domain of energy and economic policy. In the 80s he has been, for five years, a researcher at the Department of Planning of the French Atomic Energy Authority.

Prof. Capros holds an engineering degree from NTUA, three post-graduate degrees (DEA) in Economics, Informatics and Operations Research form ENSAE (France) and University of Dauphine, Paris, and a PhD "Doctorat d'Etat" in Mathematical Economics from University Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris.

He has widely published: more than 100 publications in scientific journals and three books published by international publishers. He has conducted more than fifty international research programmes in the areas of Energy Economics Modelling, Macroeconomics, Industrial Economics, Operations Research and Mathematical Programming. He has built and used a variety of large-scale mathematical models, including the models PRIMES, GEM-E3 and MIDAS which are widely used in many countries. Since 1998, he has coordinated the preparation of a series of "Energy Outlook and Trends" documents, which have been officially published by the European Commission.
